Meeting End
Within this meeting, we also discussed how the whole project has gone. We both thought that it has gone to plan and we are both happy with the progression of the unit. We have stuck to our plans and the route of which we decided to take to complete the project, however one or two contingency plans needed to be used.
The first contingency plan was that the wood we used in the advert to make up the shape of the table, had to be wrapped in paper instead of covered in paint which we originally decided. Although paint would have worked very well, paper helped reflect the studio lights, making the editing of the brightness and contrast a whole lot easier.

| Production Diary: Page 1 |
The first week was mainly working on the Pre-Production section of the Unit. This is about the initial ideas of the advert, research about the kind of target market which we want to aim the advertisment towards & health and saftey checks etc. This took around a week to complete and allowed us to have a good solid base on the production of the advertisment.

The second week was the filming, which we finished within 2 days excluding editing. The editing took another day and the rest of the week we used to evaluate our finished product and make adjustments on our blogs.

Update
Update Subject: Filming/Production
We are half way through filming our advert. The filming procedure is going very well and to plan. We have decided to use a medium shot of the table so there is a black border around the table to make it stand out. Myself and Becky are both present which allows us to work together as a team to perfect every camera shot and angle. The room we used was free, so we were able to use it with no problems occurring. We need to complete 2-3 more shots, then we should be able to pack up and begin to edit the advertisement.
Overall, the whole procedure is going to plan, we have not had to make any changes and have kept to our original ideas, meaning contingency plans have not needed to be used. This means that the whole production is much more efficient and time sparing.

Equipment Booking Forms
This image shows 3 equipment booking forms, which we must fill out. These forms needed to be filled out for our teacher to know which group of people have taken a Camera and other equipment. One positive of this is if a Camera was to go missing, the teacher can look at the form and see who should have the missing Camera. The booking form also reserves the Camera on that day, to make sure the equipment is there for us when we need to use it.

Meeting
OCR National Media Level 3 Minutes
Nature Of Meeting: Filming
Present:
- Myself
- Becky Breeden-West
Discussion:
- Discussed how we are going to transport our equipment, materials and the table itself to the room (studio)
- Discussed who will be doing certain tasks to set up filming, for example setting up camera, filming area and props.
- We discussed who will be doing the main camera work and who would be moving the props between shoots.
- We talked about how long the filming will take, and wether we can do it the best we can in a short space of time.
Conclusion:
- We will transport the equipment by hand.
- Cameras carried in camera bags for a safe transport.
- Tri-Pods will be carried by hand, making sure that they are not dropped.
- Wood will be carried by hand.
- The table will be moved from the tech department to the drama room with the use of a trolley. This will be safer than using people due to the weight of the product.
- We decided that I (myself) would be the person to gather the materials for the shoot, and for Becky to assemble the equipment ready to shoot.
- As we both wanted a part in this production, we decided that we could share the roles equally. Due to there only being two of us, it wasn't going to be hectic to try and film.
- We want to achieve the highest quality of film we can, whilst still shooting the scenes as fast as possible.
- Begin filming next lesson and try to finish within the day.
- Edit the finished video by the end of the week.
- Update progress on blogger.

Materials
Before filming, myself and Becky needed to research and gather materials which we can use to make the outcome of the media product more presentable. The material we will be using to help film the advert is as stated below:
6 pieces of wood wrapped in white paper.
This is so when all the pieces of wood are put together, it will resemble the outline of the table itself. This will allow us to edit the advert to give the effect of a cloud forming. The picture below is of the wood without any paper, in the shape of the table.
Whilst filming, we will also need materials such as the script and story board so we know which step comes 1st 2nd and so on. This is important as otherwise production may not flow as smoothly as we want. Having these materials all available to use is great as we know that there will be no complications of not having the materials ready.
- A large A1-A0 sheet of black sugar paper. This is to make sure that when we use the spotlight, no light shines up from the shiny rubber floor which is located in the drama room. It also has a deep black colour, that will make the white of the blocks stand out.

- Table - Cloud 90
Not to forget the table, this is the must important material we need as this is the item that the whole promotion is about. As the advert is advertising this table, we need to have the table in the production in order for the media production to be of any significance.
Equipment
In order to film our media product, we will need to book the equipment which we need to use. The equipment we will be using is a Handheld HD 1080p Digital Camera and a Tri-Pod. The HD Camera will enable myself and Becky to take high resolution Camera shots, which will benefit the advert by making it look highly professional. We also will be using a Tri-Pod, which allows us to take very steady shots with the Camera, minimizing any shake or movement whilst recording. In order to use the Camera, we must carry it around in a bag, which is used to protect the Camera. The bag also contains leads which allows the Camera to connect to computers and other electrical devices.
We will also be using the Studio Lighting which is situated inside the Drama Room. This will allow us to use the spotlight and make the object of our advert look more appealing to the viewers of our finished media product. The spotlight will also help to illuminate the white and the outline of the table on a black background.
If we were unable to use the equipment that our Media Department has, we would need to have a contingency plan. This plan would be to find and hire a good quality Camera which will be perfect for the filming of our advertisement. Upon researching, we came across a camera which is perfect for our production.
Sony HDR-CX550VE |
Here is a list of the hire fees which the website we visited offered.
As a group, we do not have any budgeted costs, but if we were to hire a Camera and other equipment, this would raise our budget. If we were going to hire this Camera, we would hire it for 3-4 days. This would make the cost £49.17 (including gadget insurance)
To film the advertisement, we would also need the use of a Tri-pod which enables us to shoot camera shots with precision and a steady base with no shake. Researching prices on the internet to hire a tripod, this is what i found:
![]() |
| Manfrotto 503 Tripod (Daily Cost £15 + VAT) |
This tripod would benefit our production due to the ability to shoot steady camera shots to make it look professional. The Tripod would be used for a maximum of 3 to 4 days, meaning that the total cost to rent it would be £60 + VAT
Overall, the total cost for the renting of Camera and Tripod would be: £256.98
This is slightly too much for what we had in mine, but we plan to look at other renting websites and different makes of equipment to find the best deal possible for our project. We hope to find a deal slightly cheaper as this is a lot of money which would bite into the projects budget.

Location
The location we have decided to use is the Drama Room. The Drama Room offers a vast range of space so we are able to manouvre and use more space to film the advertisement. As the floor and interior colour is mostly black, this means that when the blinds are closed, the room is in darkness, to the point where a spotlight will be of good use.
The room (shown above) has a great array of studo lighting, which will benefit us as we will need lighting in order for our advertisement to work. The surroundings are very uncluttered, which allows us a larger allocated space and less objects to trip over, meaning less health and safety risks.
The control room is very cramped and cluttered, which has i high health and safety risk as there are many trip hazards. Before filming we would need to tidy this area to prevent any calamities. The control room allows us use the spotlight and other stage lighting, which will come into play when we film the advert.
The Drama Room also comes equipped with black blinds, which are excellent at blocking out light when fully opened. This makes the room completely dark. Perfect for our situation. The room also has two entrances and exits, one being a fire door. The fire door leads straight to the car park where it is safe from any hazards. The room is easy to access with swing doors to allow easy transportation of equipment. The fire door has a ramp for any heavy equipment that needs to be wheeled in.

Skills
Myself and my colleague Becky both have our strengths and weaknesses in the subject of Media, so when organising roles and responsibilities, we focused mainly on who can achieve the best quality in this role. As the Filming and Editing side of the production interests me, and taking into account that I have more experience on iMovie than Becky, we both agreed that i would be Editing the advert. Me and Becky both have a great knowledge in the Filming side, so we came to the conclusion that we would share this role due to our combined skill level.
My colleague Becky has the ability to come up with great initial ideas for adverts, which is essential to this production. She also has knowledge on how to develop ideas to make them better and more professional. Both of our skills are vital for the success of this unit and production. Our contributions to the task ahead must be of a good quality in order to receive a great outcome.

Advert Example - Highlighter Test
This idea is a simplified version of our previous idea. With the use of the fade transition, it gives the effect of a cloud. This makes the idea look unique and designed just for our advert. The fade effect links with the overall idea, as the name of the product is 'Cloud 90', so a faded effect would suit it perfectly.

Advert example - USB Test
In this video, it shows the method of filming we will be using to make our advertisement. We were thinking about using the method of stop-motion filming, but we realised that this would take far too long to perfect. So, in contrast to this we have come up with another way of making the object in focus, appear to move across the screen by moving the camera, and not the object.
To aid us in filming, we may use a camera dolly which was made by Jamie Stalley in the tech department. This will allow us to film smooth shoots whilst keeping the camera in the same place. However, it is currently un-useable which is unhelpful, but we have a contingency plan of using a normal tripod with a HD camera.

Risk Assessment
This Prezi shows the risks in the Drama Room, and how Myself and my colleage will put controls into place to minimise these risks occuring.
Recce - Reconnaissanse Task
Me and my colleague Becky Breeden-West carried out a Recce. This involved carrying out 'reconnaissanse missions' within the school, to find a place which we could use to produce and direct a media product for the item we are featuring in our advertisment. We investigated the schools Main Hall which has an array of professional lighting equipment. Also, we investigated our specialish drama room, which also has specialist lighting equipment. Here are our results.

Interview with Steven McLean - The creator of Cloud 90
Here is an interview with Steven McLean, talking about his inspirations and how he made his table Cloud 90. -(Filmed Tuesday 20th March 2012, By Me)
Roles In Unit 3
The group i have been assigned to is made up of 2 people, those two people consist of myself and Becky Breeden-West. We were asked at the beginning of the Unit to assign roles to each person in the group. This was so each person could concentrate on different aspects of the task in hand to improve the flow of production. In a meeting, myself and Becky decided which roles to share and would best suit each person. Here is a list of the roles which we assigned each other:
Myself:
- Co-Producing and Co-Directing
- Editing
- Filming (Shared)
- Creation of props and material
- Creator of initial idea(s)
- Recces
Becky Breeden-West:
- Co-Producing and Co-Directing
- Filming (shared)
- Development of ideas
- Recces
- Risk Assessment
- Presentation of ideas.
The reason behind our choice of roles
We decided to choose these roles for each other as we both have different specialities in the creation of media products. For example, i have a good level of skill at editing film clips on iMovie, so i would be the person to achieve a good quality of edit. On the other hand, Becky has a great knowledge on how to develop initial ideas to make them as good as possible. We both have good knowledge on the use of cameras and other equipment, so we decided to share the roles as we would work better as a team in this situation.

Working Title - Cloud 90
In this Unit. we have been given the task of creating an advert for a product which a technology student, at our school, has created.
For our first assignment we have been asked to create a name for the product which we will be advertising. To begin the task, i set out to take photos of both of the products so my colleage and I could compare the aesthetics, pros and cons of both of the products. Looking at both of the items, me and Becky both decided to choose the table as the design is modern, stylish and very contemporary. Another reason was that as a group, we do not have a great knowledge on the subject of Bicycles, so the Bicycle Seat Tester was not the selection for us.
We have decided to call our product 'Cloud 90.'
We chose to give it this unique name because the table gives the illusion that the draw and sections of the table, are all floating. Resembling a cloud. With the table also being white, this links to a cloud. But with the inspiration from the phrase 'Cloud 9', meaning heaven, this links to the table due to the resemblence of a cloud. The white colour suggests that it is a 'heavenly' product. The '90' also abides by the angle of the corners as the table is made up of many rectangles and its block-like aesthetics.
We decided not to use the saddle tester because we felt that the design of the table was more practical and iconic. Shared between us, we do not have enough knowledge about bikes to have an opinion. Due to my knowledge in the technology department and woodwork, i inputed my opinions on both of the products and suggested that the use of the table in our advert was the correct route to go down.
