Scripting

This Prezi shows the ideas and effects that we had in mind before writing the script. It also shows the script towards the end. Enjoy.

Materials

Before filming, myself and Becky needed to research and gather materials which we can use to make the outcome of the media product more presentable. The material we will be using to help film the advert is as stated below:

  • A large A1-A0 sheet of black sugar paper. This is to make sure that when we use the spotlight, no light shines up from the shiny rubber floor which is located in the drama room. It also has a deep black colour, that will make the white of the blocks stand out.

  • 6 pieces of wood wrapped in white paper.
This is so when all the pieces of wood are put together, it will resemble the outline of the table itself. This will allow us to edit the advert to give the effect of a cloud forming. The picture below is of the wood without any paper, in the shape of the table.

  • (Landscape)
    • Table - Cloud 90
Not to forget the table, this is the must important material we need as this is the item that the whole promotion is about. As the advert is advertising this table, we need to have the table in the production in order for the media production to be of any significance.

Whilst filming, we will also need materials such as the script and story board so we know which step comes 1st 2nd and so on. This is important as otherwise production may not flow as smoothly as we want. Having these materials all available to use is great as we know that there will be no complications of not having the materials ready.

      Equipment

In order to film our media product, we will need to book the equipment which we need to use. The equipment we will be using is a Handheld HD 1080p Digital Camera and a Tri-Pod. The HD Camera will enable myself and Becky to take high resolution Camera shots, which will benefit the advert by making it look highly professional. We also will be using a Tri-Pod, which allows us to take very steady shots with the Camera, minimizing any shake or movement whilst recording. In order to use the Camera, we must carry it around in a bag, which is used to protect the Camera. The bag also contains leads which allows the Camera to connect to computers and other electrical devices.

We will also be using the Studio Lighting which is situated inside the Drama Room. This will allow us to use the spotlight and make the object of our advert look more appealing to the viewers of our finished media product. The spotlight will also help to illuminate the white and the outline of the table on a black background.

If we were unable to use the equipment that our Media Department has, we would need to have a contingency plan. This plan would be to find and hire a good quality Camera which will be perfect for the filming of our advertisement. Upon researching, we came across a camera which is perfect for our production.

      Sony HDR-CX550VE

Here is a list of the hire fees which the website we visited offered.

As a group, we do not have any budgeted costs, but if we were to hire a Camera and other equipment, this would raise our budget. If we were going to hire this Camera, we would hire it for 3-4 days. This would make the cost £49.17 (including gadget insurance)

To film the advertisement, we would also need the use of a Tri-pod which enables us to shoot camera shots with precision and a steady base with no shake. Researching prices on the internet to hire a tripod, this is what i found:

Manfrotto 503 Tripod (Daily Cost £15 + VAT)
This tripod would benefit our production due to the ability to shoot steady camera shots to make it look professional. The Tripod would be used for a maximum of 3 to 4 days, meaning that the total cost to rent it would be £60 + VAT

Overall, the total cost for the renting of Camera and Tripod would be: £256.98

This is slightly too much for what we had in mine, but we plan to look at other renting websites and different makes of equipment to find the best deal possible for our project. We hope to find a deal slightly cheaper as this is a lot of money which would bite into the projects budget.

Agenda - Equipment, Script, Materials & Contingency

      Contingency Plan

      Location

The location we have decided to use is the Drama Room. The Drama Room offers a vast range of space so we are able to manouvre and use more space to film the advertisement. As the floor and interior colour is mostly black, this means that when the blinds are closed, the room is in darkness, to the point where a spotlight will be of good use.

The room (shown above) has a great array of studo lighting, which will benefit us as we will need lighting in order for our advertisement to work. The surroundings are very uncluttered, which allows us a larger allocated space and less objects to trip over, meaning less health and safety risks.

The control room is very cramped and cluttered, which has i high health and safety risk as there are many trip hazards. Before filming we would need to tidy this area to prevent any calamities. The control room allows us use the spotlight and other stage lighting, which will come into play when we film the advert.

The Drama Room also comes equipped with black blinds, which are excellent at blocking out light when fully opened. This makes the room completely dark. Perfect for our situation. The room also has two entrances and exits, one being a fire door. The fire door leads straight to the car park where it is safe from any hazards. The room is easy to access with swing doors to allow easy transportation of equipment. The fire door has a ramp for any heavy equipment that needs to be wheeled in.

      Costs

Here is a Prezi i created about the costs tat may or may not affect the production of our advert.

      Skills

Myself and my colleague Becky both have our strengths and weaknesses in the subject of Media, so when organising roles and responsibilities, we focused mainly on who can achieve the best quality in this role. As the Filming and Editing side of the production interests me, and taking into account that I have more experience on iMovie than Becky, we both agreed that i would be Editing the advert. Me and Becky both have a great knowledge in the Filming side, so we came to the conclusion that we would share this role due to our combined skill level.

My colleague Becky has the ability to come up with great initial ideas for adverts, which is essential to this production. She also has knowledge on how to develop ideas to make them better and more professional. Both of our skills are vital for the success of this unit and production. Our contributions to the task ahead must be of a good quality in order to receive a great outcome.

      Advert Example - Highlighter Test

This idea is a simplified version of our previous idea. With the use of the fade transition, it gives the effect of a cloud. This makes the idea look unique and designed just for our advert. The fade effect links with the overall idea, as the name of the product is 'Cloud 90', so a faded effect would suit it perfectly.

      Advert example - USB Test

In this video, it shows the method of filming we will be using to make our advertisement. We were thinking about using the method of stop-motion filming, but we realised that this would take far too long to perfect. So, in contrast to this we have come up with another way of making the object in focus, appear to move across the screen by moving the camera, and not the object.

To aid us in filming, we may use a camera dolly which was made by Jamie Stalley in the tech department. This will allow us to film smooth shoots whilst keeping the camera in the same place. However, it is currently un-useable which is unhelpful, but we have a contingency plan of using a normal tripod with a HD camera.
